Our Cakes Throughout the Years: Doctor Who Birthday Cake

This is a cake I made for my son's 4th birthday. He is a HUGE Doctor Who fan (as are myself and my husband), and he wanted a Doctor Who theme party.  I made the topsy turvy cake to look like the Time Vortex. I specifically tried to make it look like paintbrush strokes and was inspired by the "Vincent and The Doctor" episode. I used buttercream to "paint" the cake. I sprayed edible blue, black, and red glitter to swirl up the cake.

The TARDIS is made of gumpaste and was painted with food coloring. The TARDIS was lit up on top and on the inside with LED lights. I did use paper printouts of the Police Box signs because I do not have any edible paper to print out on (so I cheated a little).

The Dalek is made of rice cereal treats and black fondant (and I had used the eyestalk, and weapons arm, and suction cup appendages from my son's broken Dalek toy).  The Cyberman is made of gumpaste and painted in edible silver paint.  The Weeping Angel is made of gumpaste and painted in food coloring.

Our Cakes Throughout the Years: Cinco de Mayo Cake

This is a cake I made to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I love how frilly and vibrant Mexican folk dresses are, so I decided to make a cake that was inspired by those dresses.

The cake is a lime, avocado and ginger cake with a mango cream cheese filling.  The multi-colored frosting used to decorate the cake is a strawberry-flavored buttercream frosting.
