Our Cakes Throughout the Years: Birthday Cake

This was a cake I made for a nun's birthday. Being the good Catholic girl that I am, I wanted to make the nun and the big man upstairs happy. LOL

The cake is a yellow cake with apricot jam filling, and coconut buttercream frosting. The nun's favorite color is lavender, so I added lavender-colored ruffles on the sides of the cake, and a lavender-colored flower on top. I also sprinkled chopped coconut around on the inside border of the cake.

Our Cakes Throughout the Years: Manliest Cake Ever Made

My husband just celebrated his 38th birthday. His only request was that I make a funny cake. I had free reign to come up with something funny and unexpected..soo I made him the manliest cake ever made.

I'm known for being a bit cheeky, so I decided to really give him something off the wall and unexpected. It's Chuck Norris, famed kick a** manly man of movie and television fame. Here in the United States, there are websites, t-shirts, bumper stickers dedicated to Chuck Norris-isms. I decided to use one for his cake.

Forgive my poor handwriting, but the banner at the top of the cake reads: "There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live. Congrats for making the list." The banner is complete with a target on it and riddled with bullet holes. :)

I free-handed the piping of Chuck Norris. I saw a picture of him online, and used black frosting to draw him on the cake.

The bit that makes this the manliest cake ever (besides the fact that Chuck Norris is on the cake) is that this is a chocolate cake with bacon inside. The frosting is bacon-flavored. Seriously. Bacon. I came up with a recipe for the frosting that would not be sweet, but pure bacon-flavored. I have to say the flavors are pretty intense. It was intense for me, but perfect for a guy to eat.
